Another session with a wannabe Ebert

Yes, I've been watching more movies and feel the need to enlighten you of my critiques of them a la Mr. Highsteaks. Speaking of which, he visited us recently, and we watched and/or re-watched a number of cinema classics.

Blow-Up: Let's see, how should I put this nicely? Dated. That's the word. Probably groundbreaking 40 years ago, not so much now. And what the fuck's up with the ending?

The Cannonball Run: The Guitar Hero didn't remember seeing this as a child, so Mr. Highsteaks and I thought it was high time he saw this must-see. As a child, this was one of my favorite movies, ranking up there with Grease and Nine to Five. I have to say, watching it as an adult I laughed a hell of a lot more than I expected. Do you think Dean Martin was drunk the entire time they were shooting?

Animal House: Just fucking awesome. Have to break out that DVD at least once a year.

And, of course, it's that time of the year known as the Fantasy Film Festival, a haven for the more Comic Book Guy-like persons amongst us. And moi. This year's selection actually looked pretty good, but due to silly little things like work I've had to pick and choose. This are the two I've seen so far:

Black Water: Yay, a crocodile movie! Really liked this. Similar concept to Open Water (except with crocodiles, duh) but original enough to carry it off. I had my feet in the air for most of it as I am a scaredy-cat freak.

The Messengers: Yawn. Let's cross The Others with The Sixth Sense and a number of other horror films and add several sprinklings of bad acting and what do we get? Pure and utter lameness.

Just wait til I fancy myself a book critic...

Smiley McSmile

I'm happy. No particular reason, nothing brilliant going on. Just really content with my life at the moment. And smiling like a dork while walking down the street.
